Handle With Care

  • The United Way of the Lehigh Valley and Resilient Lehigh Valley have created a partnership with the Lehigh and Northampton County DA's Offices, municipal police departments, and the Lehigh Valley School Districts to bring the Handle With Care Program to the Lehigh Valley.

Handle With Care is a model of enhanced police-school communication that empowers support for students who have been exposed to traumatic events outside of the school day. Essentially, if law enforcement officers are called to a scene of an incident and a child is present, a police officer will submit a Handle With Care Referral into the Safe2Say System that will in turn be sent to the appropriate Safe2Say school-based team. The goal of the Handle With Care program is to support students who are exposed to traumatic events so they can feel safe and supported in school and hopefully in turn have more positive educational outcomes.
